Welcome

Digital Media is no longer considered New Media - it is becoming the norm rather than something new. It encompasses a whole range of technologies and modes of delivery. Games and Animation are delivered via regular TV broadcast, digital and satellite, DVD, web and mobile streams. They are used for entertainment and education. Some productions are animated feature movies or triple A game titles taking millions of dollars and years to build, where others are brief web cartoons or casual games build by teams of 2-3 people on a shoestring budget.

Jalloo will focus on the smaller end of the business with presentations and workshops designed to help small companies or partnerships get their start or stay afloat in the exciting world of the Games and Animation industry.

We have lots of events planned to fill two days and more!

Come and tour the facilities of our renowned Animation and Gaming Programs. Listen to our international guest speakers, visit the student showcase, network with other professionals, watch professional and student work or at the very least relax and join us for a fabulous lobster dinner with our famous down home hospitality.

If you are into animation (traditional, digital, 3D), or gaming (casual, console, mobile, social) come and join us in all things Jalloo.

We are looking for submissions!

Do you want to showcase a new product? Do you have a great cinematic? Are you working on a new piece or student flick?

Whatever you have...We would love to show it! We will be running a video reel of Jalloo submissions giving companies and freelancers the opportunity to show off their work.

We will also be running an Arcade-styled Games Room to show off the games that you produce. Talk to us about reserving space.

    Scott Jon Siegel

Scott Jon Siegel- Playdom
Sr. Game Designer
San Francisco

Hi, I’m Scott Jon Siegel. The following facts are true. I’m a game designer. For over a year, I was working at Zynga in San Francisco, building incredible social games. I was Lead Designer on Word Scramble for the iPhone, Contributing Designer on Café World, and have provided design and documentation for many of Zynga’s other great titles, including Word Twist, Texas Hold’em Poker, and Pathwords. Prior to Zynga, I published 14 original non-digital games as part of The Escapist’s Game Design Friday. Most recently, I’ve joined the incredibly talented team at Playdom, working as a lead designer on the next generation of blockbuster social games.

I have an itchy trigger finger when it comes to game design, and constantly ruminate on new mechanics and new game ideas, particularly in the still-nascent field of games on social networks.

    joegilland

Joe Gilland - SFX Animator
Freelance
Vancouver, BC

Joe Gilland is an animation director, special effects animator, journalist, author and musician. His most recent book ‘Elemental Magic - The Art of Special Effects Animation’, has quickly become a sensation in the global animation community, bringing to print for the first time the magic behind the visual effects animation that has dazzled animation audiences since the 1930’s. Joseph’s approach to the animation process focuses not only on technical know how, but also reveals the raw energy underlying all great animation works. With passion, emotion and a vast amount of practical experience, Gilland introduces the reader to a fluid organic process of discovery and interactive experimentation that breathes new life into a fine art form that many believe to be a highly technical and tedious affair. While writing and illustrating Elemental Magic over the last four years, Joseph began bringing his vision to a workshop series entitled ‘An Organic Approach to Special Effects Animation’. The workshops and his book evolved together, feeding off of each other and resulting in a book that not only contains Joseph’s deep expertise on the subject, but also reflects the feedback of animation artists and students from around the world.

In his long and storied animation career, Joseph has utilized his traditional and digital animation talents at such studios as Walt Disney Feature Animation, Don Bluth Animation, and the National Film Board of Canada. At Walt Disney Feature Animation, Joseph served as Supervisor of Visual Effects for the Disney classics Lilo & Stitch and Brother Bear. Joseph also served as Head of Florida Special Effects Unit for the features Kingdom of the Sun, and Tarzan, and was Special Effects Animator on such notable titles as Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, James and the Giant Peach, Hercules and Mulan. His broad experience also includes animating on several short film projects at the National Film Board of Canada, and directing dozens of television commercials as an independent director. From 2003 to 2005, Joseph headed up the world renowned animation program at the Vancouver Film School.

Joe is currently at work on an independent short film and is writing a follow up volume to ‘Elemental Magic’ that will delve deeper into special effects and also include a DVD with real time step by step ‘how-to’ footage, and clips from live workshops.

On Tuesday before Jalloo Joe will be giving his fameous SFX Animation workshop. Contact us if you would like to attend.
